Hiring Salary: $75,000
June Start DatePosition Purpose: To develop, promote and administer the Foundation’s charitable funds program. Provides legal advice to staff, donors and allied professionals regarding various philanthropic giving tools, approaches, techniques and trends.
Education and Work Experience
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and minimum of five (5) years experience in estate/financial planning and/or charitable giving profession; admitted to practice in Ohio; member of Dayton Bar Association.
Key Responsibility: Primary Advisor and Consultant, Internal and External
- Increases awareness of TDF philanthropic services by networking and communicating with advisors.
- Educates advisors, donors and TDF staff on ways to utilize various techniques in charitable giving.
- Serves as consultant to Development and Grants and Program staff and their prospects on matters involving charitable giving and the legal aspects of said gifts.
- Serves as a resource to TDF’s Marketing Department by presenting charitable giving segments within marketing presentations.
- Ensures donor intentions are met by properly documenting terms of donor gifts via written fund agreements and providing amended and restated agreements on an as needed basis.
- Acts as an advisor to the management staff of TDF regarding legal matters (i.e., contracts, legal research, and possible legal implications of various business activities).
- Serves as primary contact for the majority of legal issues related to TDF business operations.
Key Responsibility: Development Support for Not-for-Profit Organizations, Coordinated through TDF Grants and Program Department
- Educates community representatives by providing informational seminars on charitable giving.
- Assists not-for-profit organizations with fund agreement development and other areas designed to support fund development activities, as requested.
- Acts as a resource for Legacy Partnership Development Officer regarding planned giving vehicles for the Legacy Partnership clients.
- Serves as TDF representative for supporting organizations as determined by TDF administrators.
Knowledge and Skills
- Excellent communication skills and knowledge of gift planning and gifting vehicles.
- Thorough knowledge of estate planning techniques, tax laws and investments.
- Knowledge and ability to understand and analyze financial statements and computer software.
